Vancouver Fine Art Auction – A Who’s Who of Canadian Art

If you’re in the mood to buy a piece of art, you’ll have plenty of choices this month.

Vancouver fine art auction ‘who’s who’ of Canadian art will be offered up for grabs at a Vancouver fine art auction next month. Featuring the collection amassed by the late Vancouver-based collector and dealer Torben Veje Kristiansen, it’s expected to fetch up to $3.5 million.

Kristiansen’s treasure trove includes a plethora of Group of Seven and other iconic household names, like Tom Thomson, Alex Colville, Jean Paul Riopelle and Lawren Harris. Also on the block will be works by contemporary painters such as Emily Carr, B.C. Binning, Gordon Smith and Takao Tanabe.

In other news from the world of fine arts, the new Richmond art gallery YKLM Auctions is poised to launch its first auction in spring 2020. Building on its established reputation for traditional Chinese and antiques, the auction house will work to combine both Asian and Canadian contemporary art.

A week earlier, the Vancouver Art Auction Society held its annual event Art With Heart at the Carlu to benefit Casey House, a specialty hospital in Toronto that cares for people living with HIV and other infections. North of $1-million was raised by the evening’s end, funds that will support both inpatient and outpatient services as well as advocacy efforts.
